Introduction

The Ahmedabad city is covered by the 466 sq.km. area, including new limits. The city owns 2310 km asphalt road network. Day by day the traffic density is increasing. The city has 26 Lakhs vehicles and the vehicles are growing at the rate of 2.19 Lacs per year. The goal of traffic project is to provide safe and efficient movement of vehicles in the city. The department defines marking, all signs, signals, and other devices used to regulate the traffic or guide the traffic. The department is providing street furniture to improve road safety and comfortable movement of vehicles.

Regulation of Traffic Vehicles

• The road is marked with Thermoplastic and C.R. Base road marking paint.
• Raised Pavement Marker (Cat Eye) fixing.
• Retro reflective Traffic sign boards fixing.
• Directional Boards fixing.
• Keep left signage fixing.
• Median Marker fixing.
• Enamel paint
• Traffic signals.
• Traffic signal SITC and Maintenance .

Roles & Functions

• To receive a proposal from the zone for Bump, Circle, Central verge, Island, Traffic signals and get its sanction from Traffic police dept. and put forward it to concern zone for the implement of the work.
• Thermoplastic and CR Base road marking Painting Junctions, Islands, Bumps, Central verges to facilitate the traffic

• For night safety vision to provide keep left bollards, median marker on the central verges opening.

• Directional Boards are fixed provide information on different location.
• Raised Pavement markers are installed at Main roads, Bumps and circles for the lane driving of vehicles.
• As per approved list of Traffic police department, Engineering Traffic Department has carried out work of fixing retro reflective type traffic sign boards like Mandatory, Cautionary and Informative boards.
• Communication with a Government department

Works carried out in Last 3 Years

• Model road phase-01 seven roads were providing complete street furniture.
• The vehicles are to be familiar with road street furniture, in the last year the traffic project painted 1000 bumps and 300 junctions. Also, the department puts up 60907 no of raised pavement marker, 921 no of keeping left signage, 526 no of directional boards, 7 405 sq.mt. of enamel paint and 63 7 no of traffic sign boards for the vision of Bumps, central verge, circle and Lane of the Main roads.

Present & Upcoming Projects

• The new resurface road is provided with complete traffic furniture
• ATCS is under implementation at all Junctions of the city.
• Intelligent Transport System (ITS) will be provided to improve the vehicles services at Zero Cost.
• Provide solar cat eye/chevron in the city
• For improved city traffic facilities, the 12 core budget is allocated in the year of 2014-15.

• Kindly stop your vehicles at the stop Line.
• Do not stop vehicles on Zebra which is damaging the painting
• Kindly obey the traffic signage
• Do not stop vehicles at free left of the Junctions and near AMTS Bus stand.
• Raised Pavement markers are installed at Main roads, Bumps and circles for the lane driving of vehicles.
